Mycoplasma are highly undesirable, easily acquired, and notoriously difficult to detect, altering infected cells at the molecular level and leading to visible changes in cell morphology and growth characteristics. Timely detection of Mycoplasma in cell cultures is recommended in order to deter wide-spread contamination and save on the costly efforts of elimination.

abm's Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit offers highly specific and sensitive detection of 200+ Mycoplasma strains in less than 1 hour. This kit was ranked in a recent publication by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as outperforming competitor kits while being cost-effective, see below.

The proprietary MasterMix formulation included in the kit contains a gel loading dye, making it convenient for gel electrophoresis.

Performance

The abm Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit is highly sensitive and specific while being very economic. The kit demonstrates higher true positive rates and lower false positive rates compared to two leading competitors, and performs on par with ATCC’s kit. See also publication from Russel et al, 2020.

The abm Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit can detect samples containing as low as 10 genome copies of Mycoplasma. The kit was used to analyze samples containing 10 to 100,000 genome copies of Mycoplasma. Presence of Mycoplasma was confirmed as a 450 bp band.
